As we approach one year since my Presidential Address given at the 2021 CAS Annual Meeting, I am renewing my call for members to pledge to be the “Actuary of the Future.” What do I mean by that?

A new Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Research Paper provides the first detailed road map for understanding and quantifying the impact of wildfire mitigation on homeowners insurance premiums. Catastrophe Models for Wildfire Mitigation: Quantifying Credits and Benefits to Homeowners and Communities explores the need for catastrophe models to perform the quantification of mitigation efforts, outlines actuarial considerations and approaches for developing wildfire mitigation premium credits, and describes challenges in obtaining data and implementing mitigation premium credits.

Data skeptic and New York Times bestselling author Cathy O’Neil is a thought leader exploring the realities and dangers of social networking, the consequences of algorithm design, and defending human dignity in the context of predatory capitalism.

In the spirit of our on-going commitment to transparency as we announce key milestones of the Admissions Transformation Plan (ATP), the CAS is sharing details regarding the process for deciding changes to topics covered on CAS exams. Over the past two years, the CAS utilized three separate analyses to ensure that the content presented on the ACAS and FCAS exams accurately represents a holistic viewpoint of the profession, and evaluates the skills needed to ensure CAS candidates and members are prepared to meet future skill demands.

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the CAS Reinsurance Research Working Group are pleased to extend a call for papers. The goal of this program is to facilitate the publication of clear, practical, accessible papers on reinsurance topics.

The CAS in partnership with The Institutes is excited to announce that registration for the new Online Course, Introduction to Data & Analytics is now open! Students and candidates can register and access the course through The Institutes website. The first window available for candidates to take the exam will be January 15, 2023 – March 15, 2023.
