This program features key content from the CAS Student Central Summer Program, which has introduced thousands of students to the P&C space. The on-demand program expands access beyond the summer months. The Summer Program continues as a selective, cohort-based experience.

The CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program is an on-demand learning experience developed by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) that provides a clear, structured introduction to the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry and the work of P&C actuaries. The program introduces learners to foundational insurance concepts and major areas of actuarial work, including pricing, reserving, data visualization, and predictive modeling, and includes an introductory Excel component as part of the learning experience. 

This program is designed for university students, early-career professionals, and career-changers who are exploring actuarial science and want to learn more about the P&C insurance industry and the actuarial profession. It is especially useful for learners who want to build confidence with key concepts and vocabulary and feel better prepared for interviews and early-career opportunities. 

The program includes approximately 8 hours of on-demand video content, with knowledge checks throughout to reinforce learning. Because it is on-demand, learners can complete the program at their own pace. 

Participants will build foundational understanding of insurance and actuarial work and gain exposure to key topics that P&C actuaries work with, including: 

• Insurance fundamentals and the role of the CAS 

• Introductory Excel concepts in an actuarial context 

• Data visualization and communicating insights 

• Pricing and how premiums are calculated 

• Reserving and estimating future claims liabilities 

• Predictive modeling and the role of analytics in insurance 

This program is built from the core curriculum of the CAS Student Central Summer Program, which runs between June and August. The Student Central Summer Program also incorporates live sessions and mentoring components. Additionally, the CAS offers the Asia Summer Program, which prepares students for successful actuarial careers in Asian insurance markets.

The on-demand format expands access to that learning experience by making it available beyond that limited time frame. This enables learners from around the world to participate whenever the time is right for them. This program is designed for students who have not completed one of the previous summer programs.

Yes. The CAS Student Central Summer Program and the Asia Student Summer Program will continue to be offered with limited enrollment. Applications will open in March 2026. The CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program will replace the Independent Self-Paced Summer Program.
