CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program

The CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program is an on-demand learning experience from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), designed to provide a clear, structured introduction to the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry (also known as general or non-life insurance) and the work of P&C actuaries.

Learners build foundational knowledge, strengthen early-career readiness, and gain exposure to the core areas of actuarial work, pricing, reserving, data visualization, predictive modeling, and introductory Excel skills, to better understand what entry-level P&C actuarial roles involve. Participants who complete the program earn a certificate of completion.

This on-demand program is built from the core curriculum of the CAS Student Central Summer Program, expanding access to key content year-round. The Student Central Summer Program and the Asia Student Summer Program will continue with limited enrollment; applications open in March.

How is this program connected to the CAS Summer Programs?

This program is built from the core curriculum of the CAS Student Central Summer Program, which runs between June and August. The Student Central Summer Program also incorporates live sessions and mentoring components. Additionally, the CAS offers the Asia Summer Program, which prepares students for successful actuarial careers in Asian insurance markets.

The on-demand format expands access to that learning experience by making it available beyond that limited time frame. This enables learners from around the world to participate whenever the time is right for them. This program is designed for students who have not completed one of the previous summer programs.

Will the CAS Summer Programs still be offered?

Yes. The CAS Student Central Summer Program and the Asia Student Summer Program will continue to be offered with limited enrollment. Applications will open in March 2026. The CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program will replace the Independent Self-Paced Summer Program.
