Variance is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that disseminates original practical and theoretical research in casualty actuarial science. Articles are continuously published throughout the year in a single volume. At the start of every year, a new volume is begun. These articles are freely available to read; there are no subscription fees or pay-per-view fees to access articles published in Variance.

Membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society is not a requirement for submitting papers to the journal, and submissions by non-CAS members are encouraged. There are no fees required to publish a paper in Variance.
