The CAS is pleased to announce its inaugural “Hacktuary Challenge,” a contest designed to showcase the actuarial skill set in developing novel risk engineering solutions. The challenge offers a prize of $15,000 to the individual or group who develop an application that utilizes actuarial concepts to solve a pressing risk management problem related to personal auto insurance. The target platform of the application is open — it may be deployed as a mobile app, an interactive web site, a desktop application, or some other means. The only deployment criteria are that it be publicly available and feature interactive elements.

Last month, Mallika Bender, FCAS, MAAA, was featured in the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) Leadership Development Interview Series.

The 2022 CAS election ballot is now available to be completed online. Voting members (Associates who have been members at least five years and Fellows) should have received an email from our online elections vendor, Skypunch Technology, with instructions for accessing the ballot.

The Casualty Actuarial Society is pleased to announce that effective immediately Ken Williams, FCAS, MAAA, will formally take on an expanded staff actuary role to enhance the voice of the profession and further support the work of the CAS leadership team. In this expanded role of staff actuary (chief of actuarial advocacy), Williams will serve as a member of the CEO’s leadership team and partner with executive leadership, the CAS Board of Directors, volunteer members, and CAS staff on key operational and strategic business matters.

In the CAS Strategic Plan, the Envisioned Future of the CAS foresees that “CAS members are sought after globally for their insights and ability to apply analytics to solve insurance and risk management problems.”

The CAS and Pearson VUE continue to work together in monitoring capacity for our candidates at exam centers for our next exam sitting.
