Exams & Admissions
The CAS is pleased to announce the introduction of exam breaks during our four-hour exams, starting with the Fall 2023 exam sitting. This new initiative is designed to enhance the performance and well-being of all exam takers, by providing them with an opportunity to rest and recharge during their exams.
With the spring exam administration closing and summer nearing, we recognize that it may be difficult to stay informed about updates being implemented through our Admissions Transformation Plan (ATP), so we are providing multiple updates at this time.
As previously announced with the CAS Admissions Transformation Plan, the CAS will be testing based on the new Content Outlines for Exams MAS-I, MAS-II, and 5 beginning this October/November 2023. With this transition, new item types will be introduced into the October/November 2023 exams. Previously, Exams MAS-I and MAS-II contained multiple choice, single response question types and Exam 5 contained constructed response and spreadsheet question types.
As the field of actuarial science continues to evolve, there is a growing need for actuaries to have advanced tools and techniques to help them better understand and manage risk. Recognizing that the CAS also evolves by revolutionizing how it prepares actuaries with problem-solving skills for the future, the CAS Board of Directors has approved a new predictive analytics requirement as part of the Admissions Transformation Plan.
The CAS is pleased to announce the publication of the new Content Outlines (formerly referred to as Syllabi) for Exams 7 and 9, as outlined in the Admissions Transformation Plan (ATP). The new content outlines enable candidates to begin their preparations for the new exams. Candidates preparing for the May 2024 sitting of Exams 7 and 9 should refer to these new content outlines.
The CAS and the Institutes are excited to announce the refresh of its ACAS pathway online courses, Online Course 1 and Online Course 2, to the new Data Insurance Series Courses: Risk Management (DISC RM) and Insurance Operations and Insurance Accounting, Coverage Analysis, Insurance Law and Insurance Regulation (DISC IA).
The CAS is pleased to announce that as part of the Admissions Transformation Plan, computer-based practice exams for the MAS exams will be available again exclusively for candidates that are registered for the spring 2023 sitting of MAS-I and/or MAS-II.
