CAS Launches P&C Actuarial Essentials Program

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is pleased to announce the launch of the CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program, a new on-demand learning experience designed to provide a clear, structured introduction to the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry and the work of P&C actuaries.

The program is designed for university students, early-career professionals, and career-changers who are exploring actuarial science and seeking to better understand entry-level P&C actuarial roles. Participants gain exposure to foundational insurance concepts and the major areas of actuarial work, including pricing, reserving, data visualization, predictive modeling, and introductory Excel skills. The program also introduces the core concepts and terminology used across the profession.

CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials is built from the core curriculum of the CAS Student Central Summer Program, expanding access to proven introductory content beyond the summer months through a flexible, on-demand format. The program includes approximately eight hours of video-based instruction with knowledge checks throughout, allowing participants to progress at their own pace.

Individuals who complete the program earn a certificate of completion, which serves as a tangible milestone and a resume signal of engagement with the P&C actuarial career path and readiness to continue learning through CAS credentials.

The CAS Student Central Summer Program will continue to be offered as a cohort-based summer experience with limited enrollment. Applications for the Summer Program open in March.
