Actuarial Standards of Practice evolve. Two veterans of the Professionalism Education Working Group will present two ASOPs with recently adopted revisions.

ASOP 36 Statements of Actuarial Opinion Regarding Property/Casualty Loss, Loss Adjustment Expense, or Other Reserves will be effective Oct 1, 2024.

ASOP 29 Expense Provisions for Prospective Property/Casualty Risk Transfer and Risk Retention effective July 1, 2024. In addition, we will talk through the process for adopting and revising ASOPs and visit other ASOPs currently being reviewed.

In this session, we will describe one insurer's experience with integrating bias and fairness considerations into its predictive modelling plans. Our objective is to educate the audience on the practical considerations of operationalizing the bias and fairness concepts that have been the subject of presentations and research papers by the CAS and other organizations. We are members of a Working Group that has been spearheading efforts to increase adoption of bias and fairness checks by our company's predictive modelling teams. We will share some practices to achieve this goal and demonstrate their use through a case study. Examples of these practices include developing qualitative guidance on when and how to incorporate fairness considerations into a modelling project plan, ensuring that analysts have access to guidance to assist with selecting technical methodologies for detecting bias, and developing supplementary in-house content to facilitate adoption of these tests throughout the model lifecycle.

A review of the potential impact of a series of recent legislative revisions to Florida’s residential property insurance marketplace. Several legislative revisions were made in May and December special sessions in 2022, with a third series of legislative revisions put in place in March and April 2023. Prior to these revisions, information from National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s data base indicated that Florida Homeowners insurance accounted for approximately 8% of the Homeowners claims in the US yet accounted for 75% to 80% of the litigated Homeowners claims in the country.
