The CAS Celebrates Global Winners of the Case Study Creation Challenge

In 2025, the CAS launched its first ever global competition for the development of innovative classroom materials. The CAS Case Study Creation Challenge in General Insurance Actuarial Science invited academics, students, and practitioners from around the world to design case studies and teaching materials that bring actuarial concepts to life through practical, real-world learning experiences.

Developed by faculty members, industry professionals, and cross-disciplinary teams from around the world, these case studies bridge the gap between actuarial theory and practice. Each one is grounded in authentic general insurance contexts, offering students the opportunity to engage with realistic data, complex decision-making, and modern actuarial techniques.

The winning case studies span an impressive range of topics, including extended warranty and device protection, property insurance market dynamics, auto claims prediction, pet insurance pricing, P&C solvency regulation, and motor insurance fraud detection. The collection also highlights emerging and high-impact areas such as climate and catastrophe risk, flood hazard modeling, parametric crop insurance, and sustainability-focused risk management using derivatives in agriculture.

The CAS congratulates the following winners for their outstanding contributions to this growing global library of educational materials, thereby helping prepare the next generation of actuaries for success in an evolving profession.
