GENERAL QUESTIONS

Who can participate in the challenge?

Any CAS member or Academic Central in good standing is eligible.

How do I register?

Registration opens on July 1, 2025. Join the Challenge” button to fill out details for submission and eligibility and wait to receive a confirmation email. If you are entering as part of a team, each team member must fill out individually.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. The competition is completely free for CAS and Academic Central members.

SUBMISSIONS

When is the submission deadline?

All entries must be submitted by September 1, 2025 at 11:59 PM ET.

How do I submit my entry?

You will receive instructions for submission after receiving a confirmation email.

Can I submit more than once?

No. Each individual or team is allowed one submission.

Can I modify my submission after uploading?

No.

TEAM & SUPPORT

How do I form a team?

You may self-organize with up to 3 other CAS members (max of 4 per team). Each team must identify a primary contact person when registering.

Can I contact the judges?

No. To ensure fairness, participants may not communicate with judges during the competition or judging period. Participants may contact the staff organizers of the competition with questions.

DATA & ANALYSIS

What data will I receive?

An anonymized dataset of event attendance, with accompanying field definitions, will be provided upon registration.

What tools can I use to analyze the data?

You may use statistical, visualization, or programming tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python) to analyze the data, as long as your findings and visuals are clearly presented in a self-contained PDF. However, the use of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar) for any part of the analysis, interpretation, or write-up is not permitted.

Can I use generative AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to help with my analysis or write-up?

No. Use of generative AI tools for any portion of the analysis, interpretation, or presentation is strictly prohibited. All work must be the original effort of the individual or team members. Violations may result in disqualification.

JUDGING & PRIZE

What is the prize?

A $15,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning individual or team (to be divided evenly amongst team members).

When will the winner be announced?

The winner will be announced by December 1, 2025.

How will the winner be chosen?

A panel of three adjudicators will evaluate submissions using a standardized rubric. The highest-scoring submission wins.

OTHER

What happens to my data after the challenge?

You are required to delete the dataset after the competition ends, as per the Code of Conduct.

Will my submission be shared publicly?

CAS may spotlight top entries or use submissions for promotional or educational purposes at its sole discretion. While we may reach out for context or clarification, consent is not required for usage.
