Volunteer Opportunity: Support the PCPA Requirement

The CAS Admissions team is seeking volunteers to support the Property and Casualty Predictive Analytics (PCPA) requirement for ACAS. If you’re an FCAS with modeling experience, we encourage you to volunteer for item writing, pre-testing, and grading throughout 2026.

ACAS members are also eligible to volunteer if they do not plan to take any CAS exams within the next three years.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the future of CAS education, collaborate with fellow actuaries, and strengthen the quality of the credentialing process.

Volunteer Roles

Item Writer
Spring and Fall | Up to ~40 hours over a 3-month period (includes Writing Summit)

Item writers help develop future PCPA exam content and projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing questions for future PCPA exams
  • Creating Assessment Screening Questions used in grading
  • Editing (and potentially developing) a new PCPA project

Bonus: Item writers are invited to attend the Writing Summit, taking place April 12–14 in Boston, MA. Travel expenses are reimbursed, and the summit offers a great opportunity to collaborate and network with Admissions volunteers from across CAS exams.

Grader
Up to ~15 hours per grading cycle | Spring, Summer, and Fall

Graders help evaluate candidate PCPA projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with another grader to initially evaluate submissions
  • Working together to reconcile grading differences
  • Participating in one or multiple grading sessions

Pre-tester
March | ~5–7 hours

Pre-testers independently review draft exam items and provide feedback on clarity, difficulty, and quality before the items are used in assessments.

Here is a resource for some Frequently Asked Questions regarding volunteering for the admissions department as well as the guidelines for our Reimbursement Policy if you sign up for item writing.
