About This Event

The actuarial profession is one of constant education. New hires are trained, new skills are acquired, and new exams are waiting around the corner. The most meticulous reports have little impact on an audience that misunderstands the work, and mistakes are inevitable from an analyst who misunderstands a tool.

Fortunately the field of pedagogy provides clear, explicable, and evidence-based best practices for acquiring new skills and ideas. Modern pedagogy combines statistics, psychology, and neuroscience to better understand how we learn, and therefore how best to teach.

This session will present pedagogical applications of cognitive load theory in the context of three common actuarial scenarios: training new employees, presenting to non-actuarial audiences, and of course, studying for exams. This webinar is appropriate for anyone in a role which requires learning, teaching, or presenting highly technical skills and concepts.
