About This Event

Take your place among the casualty actuarial profession’s volunteer and staff leaders by joining us for the 2025 CAS Leadership Summit and Council Meetings on Monday-Tuesday, September 29-30, 2025 in Arlington, Virginia, at a conference center near the CAS Office. Activities kick off on Monday, September 29 with individual council meetings, a community outreach activity at the CAS office, and dinner. Note there is not a virtual option for this year’s Summit.

Hosted by President-Elect Barry Franklin, the Summit brings together Chairs, Vice Chairs, Regional Affiliate officers, Vice Presidents, Staff, and others in-person to learn new skills and discuss CAS issues. The agenda will include:

  • A workshop on negotiation skills
  • An overview of the state of the CAS and update on CAS strategic initiatives
  • Sessions for planning FY 2026 Year Two Strategic Plan Goals
  • Ample networking opportunities

CAS Vice Presidents and Staff will provide details on Council Meetings to their respective Councils.

Most functional areas within the CAS will be meeting the day prior to the Summit, where they’re asked to start making plans for contributing to the achievement of the Year Two Strategic Plan Goals. During this interactive session, CAS Vice Presidents and their staff Chief counterparts will report out on key takeaways resulting from their discussions with volunteer and staff chairs the day prior. Our lightning round format will inform on areas of focus in the coming year, while highlighting areas for cross-functional collaboration.

Live Negotiation Training: Skills for Effective Leadership, Frank Chang, FCAS, Chair, CAS Board of Directors

Sharpen your negotiation toolkit in this fast-paced, hands-on workshop. Attendees will be assigned to one side of a real-world negotiation scenario and immersed in live bargaining, giving you the chance to test strategies, respond to shifting dynamics, and adapt in real time. A guided debrief will then distill lessons learned, highlight best practices, and translate them into practical take-aways you can use immediately in boardrooms, committee meetings, and everyday leadership conversations.

Many of our Year Two Strategic Plan Goals will require contributions from across the CAS, and this session will focus on two in particular:

  • Enhance and promote CAS thought leadership by establishing a strategic framework that guides all CAS stakeholders engaged in content development on FY 2026 strategic topics. Artificial Intelligence and Climate Risk.
  • Utilize new CAS brand assets and messaging to clearly differentiate and promote the value of the CAS and our credentialing pathway to key stakeholders.
