Casualty Actuarial Society Names Barry Franklin as President-Elect
The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is pleased to announce that Barry Franklin, FCAS, has been named president-elect of the organization for 2024-2025. Franklin will begin his term at the close of the 2024 CAS Annual Meeting in November and will go on to serve as CAS president for 2025-2026.
A long-standing Fellow of the CAS (FCAS), Franklin is a respected leader in the actuarial profession and currently serves as founder & president of Upstate Actuarial LLC. With over three decades of experience, Franklin contributed significantly to the CAS over the years, serving in volunteer roles that span across admissions, risk management and programming. Franklin also served a term on the CAS board of directors (2014-2017).

Franklin stated that he plans to draw on his extensive experience across actuarial roles and volunteer service to address the evolving needs of the profession and uphold the values that have made the CAS a leader in the field.
Franklin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I am honored to be elected as president-elect of the CAS. I look forward to working with the board, staff, and members to ensure that the CAS remains at the forefront of the actuarial profession and continues to provide valuable resources and opportunities for actuaries worldwide.”
The CAS also announced newly elected Board members: David Foley, FCAS, board member, New London County Mutual Insurance Companies; Anand Khare, FCAS, chief actuary, Ledger Investing; Jason K. Machtinger, FCAS, senior vice president, actuarial, Aon; and Simone Renee Walker, FCAS, sr. actuarial consultant, Edgewater Actuarial Insights.
David Cummings, FCAS, chief actuary and head of analytics, senior vice president, USAA Property & Casualty Group will serve as CAS president for the 2024-2025 term.
