Call for Volunteers: Exams Consultants and Pre-Testers Needed!

We are looking for a Ratemaking Consultant, a Reserving Consultant, and Pre-Testers to assist with CAS Exam 5 Basic Ratemaking and Estimating Claim Liabilities!

The Exam 5 working group is looking for a Ratemaking Consultant and a Reserving Consultant to review Exam 5 and provide feedback on questions. Consultants are subject matter experts who can help exam writers validate solutions and ensure question validity/consistency who have passed Exam 5 within the past 1-3 years and is an FCAS. The Consultants will start reviewing questions as soon as possible; the work is virtual and should take about 10 hours in total.

Additionally, the working group is in need of Pre-Testers. A Pre-Tester is someone who has recently passed Exam 5 within the past 1-3 years. A Pre-Tester is expected to have a strong understanding of all covered topics for the exam and is an FCAS.

Pre-testers will be given the exam for review late June, and feedback will need to be provided in early-mid July. There will be a Pass Mark Panel (PMP) taking place shortly thereafter, which is typically held in-person (exact date and location TBD).

Overall time commitment for the initial phase for Pre-testers is expected to be roughly 25 hours maximum, including meeting attendance. Depending on how familiar volunteers are with the material, it could be as little as 10-15 hours. Up to three Pre-testers are needed to review the exam for the Fall 2023 sitting.

If you fit the parameters for qualification and are interested in becoming an Exam 5 Ratemaking or Reserving Consultant or Pre-Tester, please reply to admissions-volunteer@casact.org and we can provide you with more information regarding this volunteer opportunity.
