Bloomberg News Publishes Article on Actuarial Diversity Efforts

Yesterday Bloomberg News published an article detailing the efforts being made by CAS and other organizations to diversify the actuarial pipeline, as well as some of the challenges these initiatives face. The article emphasizes the need for early awareness of the profession, as well as diversified sources for recruitment in the hiring process. “The pipeline really begins as early on as possible because most people who become actuaries were people who were excited by math and statistics and other STEM fields. We know that a lot of that talent and passion starts with being encouraged during your K-12 years,” says CAS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Staff Actuary Mallika Bender in the piece.

The article also shares that collaboration will be necessary in order to truly move the needle in furthering DE&I efforts. “Tackling the gap requires collaboration from actuarial professional groups, the schools that teach rising actuaries, and the firms that could potentially hire them,” the author states.
