Barry Franklin Begins Term as President of the Casualty Actuarial Society

Barry Franklin, FCAS, began his term as the president of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) today in conjunction with the 2025 CAS Annual Meeting. He will serve as CAS president for 2025-2026.

A long-standing Fellow of the CAS (FCAS), Franklin is a respected leader in the actuarial profession and currently serves as founder & president of Upstate Actuarial LLC. With over three decades of experience, Franklin has contributed significantly to the CAS over the years, serving in volunteer roles that span across admissions, risk management and programming. Franklin also served a term on the CAS board of directors (2014-2017).  

“Barry’s deep experience and commitment to advancing the actuarial profession make him exceptionally well-suited to lead the CAS,” said Dave Cummings, FCAS, chair of the CAS Board. “His collaborative approach and strategic vision will ensure the Society continues to thrive as we navigate emerging risks and evolving industry needs.”

Franklin stated that he plans to draw on his extensive experience across actuarial roles and volunteer service to address the evolving needs of the profession and uphold the values that have made the CAS a leader in the field.

Franklin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “It is an honor to begin my term as president of the CAS. Our profession is evolving rapidly, and I look forward to working with our members, volunteers, and staff to strengthen our community, enhance our educational offerings, and further elevate the influence of CAS actuaries around the world.”

Kathleen C. Odomirok, FCAS, assumed the role of president-elect of the CAS. Odomirok currently serves as a principal at EY and leader of EY’s core Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services (IAAS) practice.
