The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and Society of Actuaries (SOA) are working together to explore modifications to their jointly-sponsored Diversity Exam Reimbursement Program. A revised program is expected to be announced in 2024 as soon as the review can be completed; in the interim, the current program has been sunset. The Needs-Based Exam Reimbursement Program will remain available to actuarial candidates who demonstrate financial need.
The CAS Admissions team is looking for volunteers to help with the new Property and Casualty Predictive Analytics (PCPA) requirement for ACAS. This offering is a new testing experience for candidates and will feature both an examination and a project-based assessment, designed to help candidates and professionals in the actuarial field gain a deeper understanding of key concepts and improve their predictive capabilities.

Reviewing Conference Presentation Slides for ADA Compliance
A review of the potential impact of a series of recent legislative revisions to Florida’s residential property insurance marketplace. Several legislative revisions were made in May and December special sessions in 2022, with a third series of legislative revisions put in place in March and April 2023.
Papers submitted in response to CAS call paper programs and the results of other research projects are typically posted in the CAS E-Forum.
Come enjoy the acting of some fine fellow actuaries who will perform several skits involving professional dilemmas in the reserving space. The skits are new for 2023 and, as always, they will lead to some lively and educational audience discussions. You will walk away from this session with a better understanding of the ASOPs and the codes of conduct, and you will learn how to apply them when you face your own professional ethical dilemmas. This session may provide attendees with professionalism continuing education credits.
This presentation begins with an overview of the Insurance Information Institute’s (Triple-I) insurance economics outlook and underwriting projections, updated quarterly by their economists and actuaries. The presentation then transitions to Triple-I’s perspective on key risks and opportunities facing the insurance industry, including climate risk, legal system abuse, cyber, and risk-based pricing.

In an effort to cultivate a more diverse profession and membership for their organizations, The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA), through their Joint Committee for Inclusion, Equity and Diversity (JCIED) have made a commitment to significantly increase their funding and support of the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA) for the next three years (2019-2021).
DePaul University Hosts the 2021 Actuarial Research Virtual Conference, August 19-21. Call for Papers due June 30.
Recently, a number of candidates have reported challenges finding exam appointments at a preferred location. As noted in our Fall 2022 CAS Exam Availability Update, the CAS and Pearson VUE continue to monitor capacity for CAS candidates registering for the Fall 2022 exam sitting. We are pleased to announce that additional appointments have been made available.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s (NAIC) Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Task Force (CASTF) is evaluating continued competence of appointed actuaries after receiving a designation and has requested the CAS and SOA develop a new continuing education (CE) log for use by appointed actuaries.
CAS members are invited to The Actuarial Foundation’s inaugural “Shapiro’s Heroes” celebration, October 5, 2023, in Rosemont at the Loews Chicago Hotel. The event supports the Robert Shapiro Memorial Scholarship – a scholarship dedicated exclusively to those pursuing careers as actuaries. Tickets are $250 each.
In referring to a published prior examination, candidates should keep in mind that the questions were based on the course of readings in effect for that particular examination and may not reflect the current course of readings. Candidates may also expect future examinations to vary somewhat as to the proportions of question styles and subjects. New forms of questions may appear from time to time, and the total number of questions may vary from one exam sitting to the next.
