Leveraging LLMs in Unstructured Claims Data: The CAS Issues a Research RFP for an Actuarial Solution
The Casualty Actuarial Society's (CAS) Artificial Intelligence Working Group is offering up to $40,000 for research that documents best practices for leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) in processing unstructured data for claims analysis. The proposal deadline has been extended to Friday, May 30, 2025.
Through the discussion of interactive case studies the panelists will illustrate the use of professionalism standards such as the Code of Conduct, ASOPS, guidance from the ABCD, US Qualification standards, in realistic hypothetical scenarios.

In response to candidate feedback, the CAS is pleased to introduce a new August MAS Exam administration. This additional offering reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the exam process and marks the final initiative implemented as part of the Admissions Transformation Plan. HAROLD W. SCHLOSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
In November 1984, the Harold W. Schloss Scholarship was established by the Casualty Actuarial Society as a memorial to Mr. Schloss, a past president of the Society. The fund for this annual $500 scholarship stipend was initiated by Mr. Schloss' wife, France A. Schloss, and their children. The scholarship is being used to benefit deserving and academically outstanding students in the actuarial program of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Iowa.

CAS Research Papers are funded, peer-reviewed, in-depth works focusing on important topics within property-casualty actuarial practice. Funding for CAS Research Papers comes from CAS member dues, individual grants and other sources. Topics are solicited through a variety of means including CAS committees and formal requests for proposals.
The CAS continues to offer a robust lineup of webinars and other learning opportunities to help actuaries stay current with industry developments and enhance their professional expertise. The upcoming sessions this summer cover a range of pertinent topics, from new problem-solving approaches to industry-specific insights.
