Arlington, Va. – October 8, 2020 – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) announces the appointment of Sean Kevelighan, president and chief executive officer of the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I), to its Board of Directors for a one-year term that begins in November 2020.
Every three years there is a change in the leadership of the CAS Admissions Committees. Three years ago, Jeanne Crowell started her tenure as vice president-admissions, I became chairperson of the Candidate Liaison Committee (CLC) and Jason Russ became the chairperson of the Syllabus and Examination Committee (SEC).
The CAS has received feedback from members on a question in the Quinquennial Survey asking how important several factors are in selecting locations for CAS in-person meetings and seminars. The factors listed included "Inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ community and other underrepresented groups" and "high accessibility for persons with disabilities" among the considerations.

The staff actuary acts as an in-house advisor to the organization, offering the perspective of an experienced property and casualty actuary on issues related to thought leadership, content development, strategic planning and communications.
Arlington, Va. – September 4, 2019 – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) has announced the results of its elections, with Jessica Leong, FCAS, being named president-elect for 2019-2020. Leong will begin her term at the close of the 2019 CAS Annual Meeting in Honolulu and will go on to serve as CAS president for 2020-2021.Leong is currently lead data scientist at Zurich North America in New York, New York. Previous roles include serving as the lead casualty specialty actuary at Guy Carpenter and as a consultant at Milliman.
In the evolving diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) conversation, the focus is often on one pillar or another and not necessarily the fact that DEI is a Venn diagram. This session will focus on the dynamics of two components of DEI: Black and LGBTQ+ identity as it relates to the actuarial profession. We will cover personal experiences of our practitioners and the areas where diverse perspectives can impact the products and services we provide to the market.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) continues to be a concern to insurers as a source of potential losses. In this sessions, we will define PFAS and the associated risks, discuss how insurers should consider PFAS from a reserving standpoint, and share an overview on how insurers have responded from an underwriting perspective to this risk.
