Casualty Actuarial Society Hires Ken Williams, FCAS, as Staff Actuary

Arlington, Va. – November 7, 2018 – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) has named Ken Williams, FCAS, MAAA, as its new staff actuary. The staff actuary acts as an in-house advisor to the organization, offering the perspective of an experienced property and casualty actuary on issues related to thought leadership, content development, strategic planning and communications. Williams is a twenty-six year veteran of the insurance industry and a longtime member of the CAS with a background in commercial and personal lines insurance pricing, loss reserve analysis and enterprise risk management.Prior to joining the CAS, Williams served as actuarial manager at COUNTRY Financial Insurance Company, a role he held since 2005. Prior to being a manager, Williams rose through the ranks of the COUNTRY Financial Actuarial department from actuarial trainee to senior associate actuary.

In addition to his work at COUNTRY Financial, Williams has served as lecturer in the mathematics department at Illinois State University for 17 years, instructing future actuaries on the basic applications of property and casualty ratemaking and reserving. He has also served on the university’s Actuarial Advisory Board.

At the CAS, Williams has served as chairperson of the CAS Candidate Liaison Committee and the Professional Education Committee and as a member of the CAS Examination Committee.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from Purdue University. He is both a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). Williams has served on several industry boards, including as chairperson of the Illinois Assigned Risk Plan Governing Board and as a member of the National Crop Insurance Services Actuarial and Statistical Subcommittee.
