A new report from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) analyzes the impact of marijuana decriminalization on the vehicular accident experience in Canada and the United States. The study did not detect any statistically significant impacts of decriminalization on the car accident fatality rate, insurance claim frequency or average cost per claim, particularly over the long term.

Candidates who took exams MAS-I or MAS-II can expect to receive their results on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Results will be released between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm ET. Candidates will be notified via email when their exam results are available.
Candidates who took exams 5-8 can expect to receive their results the week of December 12-16. An exact date will be communicated prior to the release date.
As previously announced, the Admissions Transformation Plan (ATP) incorporated a Job Task Analysis (JTA) in 2020 to inform enhancements to all CAS exams, beginning with the new Exams MAS-I, MAS-II and 5. The JTA resulted in recommendations for the high-level domains1 and tasks2 covered on each exam in the ACAS and FCAS exam pathway.
The CAS is accepting registrations for the Course on Professionalism from all qualified Candidates that meet the following registration requirements:
All Fellows and Associates need to certify their compliance with the CAS Continuing Education (CE) Policy’s requirements by December 31, 2022. Members must certify compliance at the end of each calendar year as compliance with the CAS CE Policy allows the member to provide actuarial services in the year immediately following certification of compliance. This means that members should be attesting as to whether they have complied with their CE/CPD requirements during calendar year 2022 to be able to provide actuarial services in 2023.

IAA's CRTF released their fifth paper, Climate-Related Disclosures and Risk Management: Standards and Leading Practices.
The CAE resumed in-person conferences with the Fall 2022 meeting on Friday, October 6th at SCOR’s new office in Zurich, Switzerland. 56 people registered for the event in person and 29 more online. You can contact the CAS who will retain a copy of the list of the attendees, if required for your local CPD/CE records.
We are very grateful to the participants for their active participation and to the speakers for their engaging presentations in our first in-person meeting in 3 years.
Six CAS members were recently recognized by the American Academy of Actuaries as part of the organization’s inaugural Rising Actuary Awards. The award was established this year to encourage the development and emergence of actuarial leaders 35 years and younger or credentialed 10 years or less.

The Board of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is currently seeking proposals for review and recommendations to enhance the membership association’s governance system. Preference is for a consultant with experience and expertise in working with professional membership associations and Board of Directors’ governance. The consultant’s product will include recommendations to align and comply with governance best practices for professional membership organizations, with focus on the overall governance structure, Board policies and procedures, and roles and responsibilities.
