The 11th “PKU-CAS Actuarial Month” was Held in Peking University

“PKU-CAS Actuarial Month” was co-organized in November 2022, by CAS ARWG and Peking University (PKU) in China. The month-long event aimed to promote the P&C actuarial profession to the university and to help students understand more about P&C actuaries. Since first launched in 2012, the PKU-CAS Actuarial Month has reached its 11th year milestone.

The PKU-CAS Actuarial Month this year involved a series of lectures covering non-life insurance pricing, reserving, and reinsurance/solvency management. Some hot topics in practice were also involved in the lectures such as the new insurance financial reporting standard, IFRS17, and machine learning.

Associate Professor Kai CHEN of School of Economics (PKU) spoke highly of the cooperation between PUK and the CAS, calling it great values to the university’s actuarial science education to the students.

The CAS Fellow Presented to Shandong University of Finance and Economics

On December 1, 2022, the Chair of the CAS Asia Regional Working Group, Xiaoxuan(Sherwin) Li, made a virtual presentation on the practice of non-life insurance pricing to Shandong University of Finance and Economics in China. This was the first time that the CAS cooperated with Shandong University of Finance and Economics. The presentation attracted more than 210 attendance including university professors, undergraduates, and postgraduates.

Sherwin analysed the impact of pricing on the operation of insurance companies. He then introduced the actuarial principle of risk classification and ratemaking in detail. The impact of big data era on the actuarial science as well as the future development of non-life insurance pricing were also discussed in the presentation.

Professor Wenguang Yu, Dean of School of Insurance of Shandong University of Finance and Economics gave high appraisals to the presentation, stressing that communication between the university and the industry was of great value.

The "CUFE-CAS Actuarial Month” was Held in Central University of Finance and Economics in China

The “CUFE-CAS Actuarial Month” was co-organized in November 2022 by CAS ARWG and Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in China. This event should have been held in each Spring semester, but this year it had to be postponed to the Fall semester due to the situation of epidemic. The month-long event aims to promote the P&C actuarial profession to the university and to help students understand more about P&C actuaries. The CUFE-CAS Actuarial Month was first launched in 2017 and has continued annually.

The CUFE-CAS Actuarial Month involved a series of lectures covering non-life insurance pricing, reserving and reinsurance/solvency management. Some hot topics in practice were also involved in the lectures such as the new insurance financial reporting standard, IFRS17, and machine learning.

Professor Xianhua ZHOU of Central University of Finance and Economics gave positive appraisal for the event, perceiving it as of great benefit to the university’s education of actuarial science to the students.
