Along with R, Python has emerged as an appealing option for actuarial work. Python is a free and open source language with a large, global community of users. Python supports general-purpose programming including automation of file system operations, data I/O, and plotting. A number of packages are available to carry out classical statistical analysis, as well as more recent statistical learning methods. There are also packages which perform specific actuarial methods like loss reserving.

The Casualty Actuarial Society is proud to present its third China Insurance Summit, taking place on September 6, 2024. Participants will be able to attend in-person in Hangzhou, China, or virtually. The event will be conducted in Mandarin, with limited sessions in English. CAS Members, non-members, and candidates are invited to attend. This Summit will feature an action-packed schedule with a broad range of topics. Agenda forthcoming.
The CAS Case Competition Task Force is currently seeking short-term volunteers to assist in the creation of a new case competition toolkit focused on Reinsurance. The Task Force is dedicated to developing and maintaining property and casualty case competition materials for universities, which include case studies, data workbooks, and introductory presentations.
The virtual Predictive Analytics (PA) bootcamp is a six-week virtual course.
The PA Bootcamp will cover topics from both the classical statistics and machine learning paradigms. The content will be self-contained and designed for beginners with little or no experience with data science. We will leverage and provide introductions to predictive modeling in R and Python.
