CAS Participates in the 52nd Annual Gamma Iota Sigma International Conference
The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) recently joined over 500+ top students and advisors from universities and colleges across the country, along with 90 industry-leading sponsors and 350+ industry professionals in Baltimore, Maryland at the Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) 52nd Annual International Conference. As a Sustaining Partner and Platinum Conference Sponsor, the CAS proudly presented an educational session and successfully engaged with students, faculty, and industry professionals throughout the course of the two-day conference.
The CAS kicked off the conference at the Professional Association Roundtable, where Tamar Gertner, CAS Director of Engagement, helped lead discussions with fellow industry associations on best practices for attracting the next generation of insurance professionals. As one of many interactive opportunities of the GIS Conference, the CAS was eager to discuss and share how associations can support aspiring actuaries.
CAS Chief Communications Officer, Mike Boa, represented the Casualty Actuarial Society at the GIS Advisory Council Meeting, connecting with other Sustaining Partner representatives to hear about the tremendous growth of student members and chapters that GIS is experiencing. The launch of the GIS Foundation, which was formed to ensure equitable access for all students regardless of background or means, was also a major topic of discussion.
As part of CAS’s participation, staff representatives engaged with students and attendees at the CAS booth in the exhibit hall. Students had the chance to learn more about opportunities to work in the P&C industry, CAS Student Central, and the CAS’s actuarial credentialing path.
On the second day of the conference, the CAS hosted an educational session, Marijuana Decriminalization and Auto Risks: A Chronic Problem? Presented by CAS Staff Actuaries Mallika Bender, FCAS and Ken Williams, FCAS, the interactive session focused on the impact of marijuana decriminalization on auto accident experience. Additionally, Bender also participated in the Allies in Insurance session where students engage with industry professionals in an interactive forum for diversity, equity, and inclusion conversations, resource sharing and networking.
