At first glance, generative AI sounds like something out of science fiction: a seemingly all-knowing computer that can answer any question that it is posed. It can do everything from writing code to composing a poem to answering trivia questions. Some even worry that it will one day replace white collar jobs. It’s clear that generative AI is a powerful new technology. But new technologies also pose challenges for actuaries that should be considered before being applied in a wider context.

The Casualty Actuarial Society’s (CAS) Reinsurance Working Group is offering up to $75,000 for a research project that advances the quantitative estimation and prediction of specific aspects of social inflation for at least one insurance line. Proposals are due Monday, January 27, 2025.

This includes registering for exams and events, paying dues, volunteering, and much more.

Given an image, it's the visual that delivers the impact, not the RGB code (e.g., 0, 180, 0). Actuaries solve problems with numbers, but the message of the solution can be amplified or demystified through good visualizations. This session explores various types of plots and their use cases in several actuarial contexts. We will also attempt to collectively find the kind of plot(s) and some best practices that best communicate the intended message via interactive polling from the audience.

Candidates who took exams MAS-I or MAS-II can expect to receive their exam results on December 10 between 10am-11am ET.
Candidates who took Exams 5, 6U, 6C, 6I, and/or 8 can expect to receive their results the week of December 16th. An exact date and time will be communicated prior to the release date.

The CAS has released its schedule of 2025 examinations, which will be administered via computer-based testing at Pearson VUE Professional Centers. The CAS is excited to announce a significant expansion in the frequency of its examination administrations starting in 2025.
