Event Information

Casualty Actuarial Society’s Envisioned Future (from the CAS Strategic Plan)

The CAS will be recognized globally as the premier organization in advancing the practice and application of casualty actuarial science and educating professionals in general insurance, including property-casualty and similar risk exposure.

Continuing Education Credits

The CAS Continuing Education Policy applies to all ACAS and FCAS members who provide actuarial services. Actuarial services are defined in the CAS Code of Professional Conduct as “professional services provided to a Principal by an individual acting in the capacity of an actuary. Such services include the rendering of advice, recommendations, findings or opinions based upon actuarial considerations.”

Members who are or could be subject to the continuing education requirements of a national actuarial organization can meet the requirements of the CAS Continuing Education Policy by satisfying the continuing education requirements established by a national actuarial organization recognized by the Policy.

This activity may qualify for up to 6 CE credits for the 2023 Technology, Innovation and Insurance Virtual Seminar for CAS members. Participants should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. CAS members earn 1 CE credit per 50 minutes of educational session time, not to include breaks or lunch.

Dave Border, FCAS, Senior Insurance Executive

Dave Border, a Senior Insurance Leader with 20+ years of experience delivering results for Allstate Insurance Company across personal lines, auto, and property insurance products, is known for his leadership and expertise in the actuarial space, regional product management, P&L ownership, and executive leadership of complex business units. Dave began his career in pricing, focusing on regulatory and legislative activity with Allstate Insurance Company. He later transitioned to product management leadership of multiple regions and then countrywide vehicle product management. In 2016, Dave continued his tenure at Allstate Insurance Company by assuming the role of President, Allstate Dealer Services leading the turnaround of this business unit focused on vehicle service contracts and related products. Dave joined RealPage in 2021 as SVP, Insurance Services where he leads the Insurance team serving the needs of residents, property managers, and owners in the Multi-Family housing industry. Dave earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Minor in East Asian Studies from Washington University.

Mike Gulla, Managing Principal Consultant, Gulla Consulting Service, LLC

Mike has nearly 20 years of insurance experience across the P&C industry. Currently, Mike runs his own insurance consulting business in Austin, TX where he supports clients with underwriting strategy, cyber risk assessment, MGA formation, platform technology, reinsurance strategy, fundraising, and product development. Prior to consulting, Mike spent 4 years leading Underwriting and Insurance Product at Hippo Insurance (NYSE: HIPO) where he was the 1st insurance hire and helped the company raise ~$700M and launch over 100 products in more than 30 states. Prior to Hippo, Mike led various underwriting and insurance operations at Esurance, Nationwide, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car across all 50 states and parts of Canada.

Sergey Litvinenko, Founder & CEO, Koop Technologies

Sergey is a Co-Founder & CEO at Koop Technologies, an insurance technology company specializing in automation risks such as autonomous vehicle fleets and robotics.  At Koop, Sergey is responsible for all aspects of business, including new product development.  Previously, he worked in banking, where he developed financial models for different kinds of banking products, including asset-backed securities.  Sergey is a graduate of Boston College, MSc and the University of Pittsburgh, BSc.

Patrick Stapleton, FCAS, Actuary, Allstate

Patrick studied Actuarial Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He started his career at Allstate in 2012 and has held a number of different actuarial roles. He currently leads a property modeling team focused on homeowners, renters, condo, and landlords package rating plan loss modeling and underwriting.

Brandy Mayfield, SVP and Managing Director, Aon Digital Economy Practice

Brandy leads Aon’s Digital Economy Team and joined Aon in 2022. She’s known for building creative-yet-simple insurance solutions for digital platforms, as well as the people and assets that rely on them. For over 20 years, she has connected the dots for commercial insurance carriers, brokers, and their customers. She’s enjoyed geeking out in building some of the industry’s first generalized linear models, renewal segmentation strategies, and multicountry coverage solutions. She established the Shared Economy division at Allstate—extending protection to the largest ride, vehicle, and home-sharing platforms in the industry. Most recently, she led the UW and product divisions for a sharing economy MGU start-up. She first began working in the industry in 1999. Brandy understands the power of data, helping companies determine how their performance compares to industry benchmarks. Her expertise includes building episodic insurance and loss control solutions for clients, with a focus on P&C lines of business.

Max Aronchick, Managing Director, InsurTech Center of Excellence Leader at Guy Carp

Max Aronchick Max joined Guy Carpenter in July of 2011 from university and has been with the company for 10 years. In the time since, Max has progressed to lead a wide range of property and casualty treaty opportunities for the firm and has most recently been named the company’s InsurTech Center of Excellence leader with responsibility for Guy Carpenter’s strategy in the space. He is concentrating as of late in consumer lines of businesses with a clientele that ranges from Large Stock Co.’s to greenfield InsurTech carrier ventures. Aside from start-up initiatives, he has experience leading programs for National writing companies, as well as Global clientele, across many classes of property and casualty business. In addition to Max’s account work, he has lead a number of internal initiatives for the company and has previously held positions in the firm’s Mortgage Credit Segment as well as Terrorism task-force. Max holds Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University as well as an ARe designation.

Taylor Robinson, Primary Reinsurance Actuary, ICW Group

Taylor Robinson has worked in the insurance industry for seven years. He has served as ICW Re’s lead actuary since November 2019. Mr. Robinson’s responsibilities at ICW Re include:

  • Pricing reinsurance treaties covering property, property cat, casualty, and specialty lines of business;
  • Capturing and maintaining company exposures over all classes of business and monitoring catastrophe losses and risk measures;
  • Developing and maintaining reinsurance pricing models; * Reserving;
  • Budgeting; and
  • Reporting pricing data and metrics to ICW Re management

Mr. Robinson has been with ICW for five years, initially supporting pricing and modeling for direct lines before joining ICW Re in 2019. Prior to ICW he worked in travel insurance pricing for a California based MGA. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine, is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society, and is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Claire Opila, Lead Product Manager, Vouch Insurance

Claire is the lead product manager for embedded insurance at Vouch Insurance. She builds product solutions for partners to offer insurance within their client’s workflows. As part of embedded insurance, she is building an Intake API for both internal and external use to drive the questions clients receive in the application flow. Prior to Vouch, Claire has had diverse product experience at a couple of fintech startups: an API based payments company, Orum, and an embedded finance company, Even Financial. In her personal life, Claire is passionate about psychology, mental health, and the outdoors.

Jen Jabben, Senior Manager, Ernst & Young LLP

Jen is a Senior Manager in the Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP. She leads the Actuarial Transformation service offering focused on leveraging new technologies and modernizing operating models to improve decision support, drive efficiency, and accelerate innovation for actuarial functions. Jen has nearly 20 years of experience in Property and Casualty insurance pricing, product management, product development, portfolio management and product delivery.

As EY’s Global Consulting Leader for Embedded Finance, Sarah is responsible for designing and delivering Embedded Insurance and Embedded Financing solutions. Throughout her career serving financial services institutions, Sarah has established herself as a solution delivery manager who has successfully managed the implementation of multiple, large-scale technology change programs.

Patrick Charles, Head of P&C Insurance Americas, Sirius Point

Patrick Charles is Global Head of Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance & Services.

Patrick joined SiriusPoint in September 2021 as Head of Americas P&C Insurance to manage and grow the Company’s US P&C insurance business. He is responsible for the expansion of SiriusPoint’s strategic partnerships, development of products and services to support new and existing partnerships, execution of the Company’s global strategy and delivery of financial commitments for P&C insurance. Patrick’s role as Global Head of P&C Insurance & Services reflects his contribution to driving the growth of the Company’s P&C insurance business worldwide.

Patrick serves as a Board Member for a number of companies in the SiriusPoint strategic partnerships portfolio, within the Company’s Insurance & Services segment. These include Arcadian, Banyan Risk, and Parameter Climate. Patrick joined SiriusPoint from Zurich Insurance Group, where he held North American leadership roles in underwriting and strategy spanning the past decade. During his previous 20+ years in the insurance industry, Patrick spent time at McKinsey & Company, Alliance Bernstein and the St. Paul Companies. He began his career as an actuary and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Emily Kessler, Senior Actuary, Vouch Insurance

Emily is currently a Senior Actuary at Vouch, a start-up whose mission is to build the best business insurance for those building the future. At Vouch, her key responsibilities include pricing, reserving, and capital modeling. She has experience working across multiple lines of insurance, including speciality, commercial, and personal.

In addition to her actuarial work, Emily is passionate about helping companies build a more diverse and inclusive culture.

She joined Vouch from Canopius US Insurance where she supported a quickly growing business for more than three years. She has also held roles at CNA and Travelers.

Emily holds a B.S. in Actuarial Science and Finance from Drake University, is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), and an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) though The Institutes.

In her free time, Emily enjoys traveling, photography, and baking. She loves spending time with her two dogs and fostering other dogs.

Rebecca Marsden, VP of Risk and Insurance, Oxbotica

Rebecca is VP of Risk and Insurance at Oxbotica. She is responsible for Oxbotica’s global risk management, as well as its insurance strategy and innovation. Amidst increasing demand for autonomous technology across industries, Rebecca's role is to provide insurance expertise and innovative solutions to enable Oxbotica's partners in the autonomous vehicle ecosystem to easily integrate and rapidly deploy. She brings to the role over seventeen years international experience across insurance underwriting and financial services. Rebecca most recently served as Head of Innovation at Apollo ibott 1971 - a dedicated syndicate at Lloyd’s of London - where she specialised in data driven underwriting, focusing on emerging markets including new mobility and the sharing economy. During her time at Apollo ibott 1971, Rebecca worked closely with Oxbotica, where she led the successful creation and underwriting of the company’s first zero-occupancy autonomous vehicle journey on a publicly accessible road in 2022. This was the first bespoke autonomous vehicle insurance policy wording in the UK and Europe. Rebecca previously held positions across a range of financial institutions including AXA, Willis Towers Watson, Renaissance Capital, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. Her experience has given her a unique perspective on utilising data backed insurance solutions to bring new technologies to market.

Angela Grant, Chief Legal Officer, Palomar Holdings, Inc.

Angela Grant is an inspiring servant leader with intuitive legal and business expertise and a technology-driven mindset. Over 25 years of proven success as a collaborative advocate helping organizations to create, build, and maintain innovative and compliant business models. Experienced people manager leading small and large teams and spearheading creative, scalable solutions in cross-functional groups. Angela Grant joined Palomar Holdings, Inc. in 2020 and serves as the Chief Legal Officer. Ms. Grant most recently served as Chief Legal & Innovation Officer at CSE Insurance Group. Previously, Ms. Grant served as the Head of Compliance & Legal at Hippo Insurance. In addition to her legal and compliance background, past leadership roles at Esurance, Kemper, and GEICO burnished her credentials in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and strategy. Ms. Grant received her Juris Doctor from Texas A&M University School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Texas.
