Associate Editor Volunteers Needed for Variance

Variance is in search of associate editors (AEs) to manage the peer review of papers. This is a leadership position on the Editorial Board in which the AE will receive assistance and guidance from, and provide assistance to, the editor in chief and co-editor. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to new actuarial literature!

An AE is assigned a specific paper by the editor in chief of Variance. It is then the AE’s responsibility to identify reviewers, work with them in the evaluation of the paper, and present a recommendation to the editor on whether to publish the paper. Timeliness is important, and AEs should begin the process of inviting reviewers within 11 days of receiving a paper.

AEs handle the stages of review through CAS’s online submission portal, ScholarOne. Training is provided for those who are unfamiliar with the platform.

Associate editors should have some prior experience with peer review for a journal or other publication, such as having served as a peer reviewer for papers. As part of Variance’s editorial board, AEs have the chance of shaping the future of Variance. If you are interested, contact Donna Royston (droyston@casact.org) or Roger Hayne (rmh-fcas@gmx.com).
