Williams is associate dean for research and experiential learning and professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. She hosts the PBS series NOVA Wonders, which explores the biggest questions on the frontiers of science. In addition to her teaching and television work, she has partnered with the World Health Organization in developing a cataract model used to predict the cataract surgical rate for countries in Africa.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Spelman College, master’s degrees in mathematics from Howard University and statistics from Rice University and a PhD in statistics from Rice University.

Slaughter retired in 2018 after 24 years at the helm of McKinley Advisors, a consulting firm focused on serving associations. Her role at McKinley, which she founded, included providing strategic direction and designing pathways to solve associations’ most pressing challenges.

Slaughter is a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (FASAE) and served as chair of ASAE’s for-profit subsidiary and as director of the ASAE board. She was the appointee of the year to the ASAE Academy of Leaders, which recognizes leadership, contributions and commitment to the association community by professionals not employed by associations. Slaughter holds a bachelor’s degree from Goucher College.

Steve Armstrong, CAS President, said, “We are thrilled to have Dr. Talithia Williams and Jodie Slaughter join the board as valuable contributors. The perspective provided by non-actuaries on issues that come before the Board adds great value to our deliberations.”

Joining Slaughter and Williams as appointed CAS directors is Brad Monterio, chief learning officer, vice president of member competency and learning, California Society of CPAs, who was reappointed to a third one-year term.
