Call for Speakers 2024 Joint Property/Casualty Actuarial Seminar Taipei, Taiwan September 2, 2024

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Actuarial Institute of Chinese Taipei (AICT) invite you to be a part of the 2024 Joint Property/Casualty Actuarial Seminar scheduled for September 2, 2024, in Taipei. Don’t miss out this opportunity to speak to actuarial practitioners in Taiwan and the greater Asia region.

 

Topics of Interest

The Seminar Planning Task Force would like to invite submission of papers on the below topics.

 

  • Auto Insurance
    • As technology advances, more and more advanced driver assistance systems including backup camera, blind spot monitor, etc., become basic equipment for auto vehicle. How insurance companies can adjust their operating policies to deal with the dramatic change of car manufacture is critical to survive in the highly competitive environment. 

 

  • Panel Discussion Regarding Practical Issues in Taiwan
    • Commercial Car Insurance - The combined ratios for both property damage and body injury of commercial car insurance are over 100% in recent years. Although the rating algorithm for private car and commercial car are not the same, how to find new significant rating variables for commercial car insurance may help to reduce the combined ratio.
    • Expense Allocation – Due to the gigantic claims of COVID insurance, the ULAE is concentrated to two LOBs since it is allocated by number of claims. The fluctuation of expense ratio caused an unstable result for all LOBs year by year. When a catastrophic event happen, what is the proper way to allocate expense?
    • Extended Warranty – The rates for extended car warranty are usually provided by experienced reinsurer for most of the insurers in Taiwan. However, the loss ratio is high for almost every car brands. Besides, very few insurer operate extend warranty for home appliances in Taiwan and lack of experience becomes a hurdle for this type of product to thrive. How can insurance company price extend warranties correctly and make strategies to turn from loss to profit is an interesting topic.

Requirements

  • Speakers in the past have presented in English, Mandarin, and a combined format (e.g., slides in one language, oral comments in the other).
  • Lengths of these sessions are typically 45-50 minutes including Q&A.
  • Speakers are encouraged to have their employer’s support on the travel cost. The seminar registration fee will be waived for speakers, and we invite you to participate in the entire seminar.

Submission

Please submit your proposed session title, session description, speaker(s), presentation language(s), and other requested to blin@casact.org  no later than June 10, 2024.

The Task Force has the final authority to select presentations and speakers that best meet the educational and professional objectives of the seminar; and to collaborate with a potential speaker to adjust the content of a session to meet those needs.
