CAS Members Present at GIRO Conference in Liverpool

Several members of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) provided insight into property and casualty topics recently at the U.K. Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ 2022 GIRO Conference, November 21-23, 2022 in Liverpool, England. The annual conference brings together leading experts to gain insight into key issues, emerging ideas and new research across the property and casualty (also known as general insurance) sector.

CAS member participation included:

  • Robert Spaul, FCAS, FIA, AIG, co-presented the session “Future of Pricing” to discuss the ways actuaries are transforming pricing and the skills needed to continue to innovate in this area.
  • Brian Fannin, ACAS, CSPA, CAS research actuary, presented findings from the CAS Research Paper Series on Race and Insurance Pricing, which featured papers addressing different aspects of race and insurance pricing as viewed through the lens of P&C insurance. 
  • Brian Fannin also co-presented the session “Comparison of Simulation Engines for Claims Data,” which featured research from the IFoA Machine Learning in Reserving Working Party.
  • Ronald Richman, Old Mutual Insure, a CAS Affiliate Member, presented on a proposed new method for discrimination-free insurance pricing and its potential real-world impacts.
