James K. Christie Begins Term as President of the Casualty Actuarial Society
Las Vegas, NV – November 14, 2018 – James K. Christie, FCAS, an insurance industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, began his term as the president of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) today in conjunction with the 2018 CAS Annual Meeting.
Christie has been actively involved with the CAS for over three decades, having earned his Associateship with the CAS in 1979 and his Fellowship in 1982. He has taken on various leadership roles within the organization, such as serving on the CAS Board of Directors from 1992 to 1994 and as CAS vice president-admissions from 2005 to 2008. Christie has served on the CAS Examination Committee, the CAS Education Policy Committee, the Task Force on CAS Education Strategy and the CAS Member Advisory Panel. He is also a past president of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA).

Christie is currently self-employed as a consultant, with previous experience at both large international insurance corporations and small entrepreneurial operations. His areas of expertise include financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, product design and pricing, claim reserving, and reinsurance design.
Steven D. Armstrong, FCAS, currently vice president, product integration and management at Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, Illinois, assumed the role of president-elect of the CAS. Armstrong has served multiple terms on examination and professional education committees over the last 20 years. Armstrong also recently served on the CAS Board of Directors from 2011-2014 and on the CAS Executive Council as vice president-admissions from 2014-2017.
