Casualty Actuarial Society Names Steven D. Armstrong as President-Elect

Arlington, VA – September 12, 2018 – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) has announced the results of its elections, with Steven D. Armstrong, FCAS, MAAA, being named president-elect for 2018-2019. Armstrong will begin his term at the close of the 2018 CAS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV and will go on to serve as CAS president for 2019-2020.Armstrong is currently vice president, product integration and management at Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, Illinois. Previous roles include chief pricing actuary for personal lines, agriculture, mortgage services, and crop at QBE and global chief pricing actuary - consumer insurance at AIG.

Armstrong is a longtime CAS volunteer, having served multiple terms on examination and professional education committees over the last 20 years. Armstrong also recently served on the CAS Board of Directors from 2011-2014 and on the CAS Executive Council as vice president-admissions from 2014-2017.

During his terms as CAS president-elect and president, Armstrong plans to focus on collaboration with other actuarial and industry associations, working to address issues such as diversity, education, and the future of the actuarial profession.

The CAS also announced newly elected Board members: A. David Cummings, FCAS, MAAA, CERA, chief P&C actuary and head of analytics at USAA; Stephen Mildenhall, Ph.D., FCAS, CSPA, ASA, CERA, assistant professor of risk management and insurance and director of insurance data analytics at the School of Risk Management in the Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University; Julia Stenberg, FCAS, MAAA, assistant vice president & actuary, workers compensation and large casualty at CNA Insurance; and Melissa Tomita, FCAS, MAAA, CPCU, financial director at Nationwide Insurance.

James K. Christie, FCAS, James K. Christie Actuarial Consulting, will serve as CAS president for the 2018-2019 term.
