Seminar Sessions and HandoutsWhat is the "right" way to determine the amount of risk inherent in a particular reinsurance contract; and knowing that, what is the "right" profit load? Actuaries will often set significantly different prices for a reinsurance contract. This is perhaps largely due to differences in estimation of the expected losses. However, one's choice of return model could have a significant effect.
Should one keep it simple and price to a certain combined ratio? Should it be the same combined ratio for every type of contract? How do we first decide on the target combined ratio?
Or should we set a target return on equity? If so, how do we determine the amount of equity? And even then, what is the proper return hurdle? Do we use RAROC, RORAC or some other acronymic ROE approach?
What about internal rate of return models? Can we use CAPM? How about using utility theory?
This one day intensive seminar will explore many of these questions and more.
