2004 Casualty Actuaries in Reinsurance (CARe)
Special Interest Limited Attendance Seminar on Terrorism
September 13, 2004
New York Marriott East Side
525 Lexington Avenue
New York, New York 10017
(212) 755-4000This one-day special interest, limited attendance seminar presents current topics and issues associated with Terrorism. Is Terror Risk or any component of it insurable? In order to answer this question, one needs to gain an understanding of the exposure itself.
Subsequent to the terror occurring on September 11, 2001, several organizations within the insurance/reinsurance industry called upon experts within and outside of the industry to do just that, assist them in understanding who, why, and what would cause these catastrophic events. These firms put together teams of individuals to develop expertise and explore the possibility of creating viable solutions to manage, price, model, underwrite, and, possibly, insure Acts of Terrorism. Some of these individuals have been recruited to speak at this seminar, volunteering their knowledge to help further educate other industry professionals. Experts from both the insurance industry and beyond will discuss prevention of future acts of terror.
The topics selected for this seminar provide a range of current information regarding terrorism to the actuarial community. The presentations range from being technical in nature to more qualitative discussions. The seminar will consist of six sessions, which are described below.
