Editors' Note: Check Out Our New Look
Change is good, every ten years or so, whether we like it or not. We
hope you do like the new layout and format of The Actuarial
Review! Credit for the new design goes especially to Dan Magnolia,
who not only started the ball rolling, he moved it most of the way to
the goal line, and to Elizabeth Smith, Parker Boone, Nora Young, and
Arthur Schwartz. It took considerable time and effort on their parts to
consider possibilities, create sample layouts, sort the good ideas from
the not-so-good, and decide among the alternatives. They reviewed every
aspect of the AR layout and format—fonts, headings, titles,
column widths, margins, colors, you name it.
Once again, we thank you for the articles you continue to contribute to
the parody issue we are preparing. Please keep them coming! The winner
of the "Name That Parody" contest is "Actuarial Revue,"
submitted by Joseph Pietrazewski. Thanks to all who submitted an
entry—it was a tight contest, and the voting was close. Joe, you will
receive your prize shortly.
We received only three responses from readers who much prefer to have a
hard-copy edition of The Actuarial Review delivered to their
inboxes rather than print a hard copy of the on-line edition on the CAS
Web Site. Although this small group is not exactly a significant
minority of the total readership, we suspect that more than a few of
you would like to continue to have us deliver the AR to you
personally. Still, it seems a shame not to take advantage of the
marvels of modern technology, so we are considering an alternative that
might be a workable compromise: we e-mail the AR in .pdf format to your
personal electronic inbox. If you like to keep back issues for future
reference, then you'll be able to. If you prefer to read a hard copy
(and many of us do!), then you can print it at your convenience. If you
see a problem with this approach, let us know at AR@casact.org.
