CAS Fellows to Vote on CAS Leaders,
Mutual Recognition, and Bylaws Revision

This year CAS Fellows will vote on the slate of candidates for the 2003-04 CAS elections, a constitutional amendment on Mutual Recognition, and a proposed revision to the CAS Bylaws regarding dues for reinstated members.

Patrick J. Grannan, 2003 Nominating Committee chair, announced the slate of candidates for the 2003-04 CAS elections. Stephen P. D'Arcy is the candidate for president-elect. Candidates for director positions include Robert V. Deutsch, Sholom Feldblum, Clive L. Keatinge, Andrew E. Kudera, David L. Menning, Jay B. Morrow, Chester J. Szczepanski, and Robert F. Wolf.

The second annual "Meet the Candidates" section of the CAS Web Site was posted on July 1. Candidates on the ballot for the board and president-elect provided a one-page biography, an additional page of relevant biographical information, a short statement entitled "Why I Want to Serve," and a brief statement identifying their positions on issues of special interest to them.

In the "Open Question Forum," open from July 1-15, Fellows were able to pose questions to candidates. At the close of the forum, candidates had one week to respond to questions. On July 23, a link to the questions and responses was posted under each candidate's name and the responses of all candidates were compiled under each question on a separate Web page titled "Candidates Respond."

CAS Fellows had until July 18 to register for online voting. On August 1, official ballots and voting instructions are to be mailed to all Fellows who did not register to vote online. Those Fellows who registered for online voting received an e-mail announcing that the online voting booths open on August 1. Completed ballots must be submitted online or returned to the CAS Office by September 2, 2003. All vote counts will be released to the membership.

The 2003 Nominating Committee is composed of the two most recent past presidents—Robert F. Conger and Pat Grannan; one past board member—Doreen S. Faga; and four members, two who have been Fellows for at least ten years—Leon R. Gottlieb and Anne E. Kelly—and two who have been Fellows for less than ten years—Steven A. Kelner and Julia Causbie Stenberg.
