CAS And Peking University Hold "PKU-CAS Actuarial Month" To Promote The P&C Actuarial Profession
The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and Peking University launched a month-long joint campus event in Beijing, China, to promote the casualty actuarial profession among Chinese universities and help make more students aware of what property and casualty (P&C) actuaries do and the skills necessary for a successful P&C actuarial career.
The event was named "PKU-CAS Actuarial Month," and involves a series of lectures given by the members of the CAS covering non-life insurance pricing, non-life insurance reserving and non-life reinsurance as well as some hot topics such as the reform of motor insurance and the new solvency supervisory regime, C-ROSS, in the current Chinese market. The first lecture was made on November 6, 2017 by Xiaoxuan (Sherwin) Li, FCAS, chair of the CAS Asia Regional Committee.
Prof. Kai Chen, associate professor of School of Economics of Peking University spoke highly of the joint campaign, saying that "PKU-CAS Actuarial Month" will not only increase students' knowledge of the P&C actuarial profession but also foster communication and build relationships between the academic and practitioner communities.
The CAS will continue its efforts throughout November by sending several CAS members to the PKU campus, including Bo Huang, FCAS, president-elect of the CAS Asia Regional Affiliate ARECA and Jie (Michael) Lu, FCAS, the chief actuary of Zebra Car Driving Technology Company. Huang and Lu will present on several topics pertaining to the P&C actuarial profession.
