How Will the Proposed CAS Continuing Education Policy Affect Me?
With the release of the Second Exposure Draft of the CAS Continuing Education Policy, some members have asked, “How will this affect me?”
All ACAS and FCAS members would be subject to the CAS Continuing Education Policy, and all ACAS and FCAS members who perform “Actuarial Services” would be subject to the requirements. However, if you are already meeting another actuarial organization’s continuing education requirement, you may elect to comply with the CAS Continuing Education Policy by “Alternative Compliance” (see Section D of the proposed CAS Continuing Education Policy).
Actuarial organizations that would be eligible for “Alternative Compliance” are:
- American Academy of Actuaries
- Canadian Institute of Actuaries
- United Kingdom Faculty of Actuaries/Institute of Actuaries
- Institute of Actuaries of Australia
Please note that there are other aspects of the proposed CAS Continuing Education Policy that will affect members and on which members may wish to comment, such as the annual certification of compliance and the annual audit of a sample of CAS members who certify compliance. The Board has posed a series of questions for which specific feedback is sought, and members are encouraged to read the Exposure Draft and provide comments.
Comments are due by December 15, 2009.
