Call for Actuaries Interested in Climate Change Issues
07/08/2008 — Are you currently applying your actuarial skill set to climate change issues, or are you interested in exploring how actuaries can contribute to this emerging risk area?
The CAS is looking for volunteers to contribute to two projects related to climate change with additional projects likely to follow, given the growing interest in this topic. The current opportunities include:
- Research Project. As part of the Image of the Actuary campaign, the actuarial profession is undertaking an industry-wide actuarial research project that will showcase actuaries as thought leaders who can provide valuable insight on emerging risks. The Image Advisory Group is exploring the idea of focusing the project on climate change issues, and is forming a small working group to scope out the project.
- Profiles. Also in support of the Image campaign, we are looking for actuaries working on climate change issues who could be profiled and featured on the Image of the Actuary web site (www.ImageoftheActuary.org).
Contact Mike Boa at the CAS Office (email@example.com) if you are interested in these opportunities or potential future opportunities. Future opportunities may include participating on a CAS research working party or speaking on the topic at meetings and seminars
