CAS Appoints First Non-Actuary Board Member
At its March 15, 2007 meeting, the CAS Board of Directors approved the appointment of Mark Vonnahme to the Board, making him the first non-actuary to serve the CAS in this capacity. This action was possible as a result of the changes to the CAS Constitution approved by the Fellows last year that allows the CAS to appoint additional board members to the CAS Board of Directors. Appointed directors serve for a term of one year, renewable for up to three years.
The CAS Task Force on Board Governance recommended Mr. Vonnahme to the Board. The Task Force is chaired by Irene Bass and includes Chuck Bryan, Bob Deutsch, David Drury, Doreen Faga, Allan Kaufman, and Cynthia Ziegler.
Mr. Vonnahme, Fox Family Distinguished Clinical Professor, joined the faculty in the Department of Finance, College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) in the fall 2003 after a thirty-one year career in the property casualty and surety business. Prior to joining the UIUC faculty Mr. Vonnahme was the President and CEO of CNA Surety Corporation. Read Mr. Vonnahme’s complete bio for more information.
