Morton Lane Appointed to CAS Board of Directors
ARLINGTON, VA – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Morton Lane to its Board of Directors for a one-year term beginning in November 2008. Dr. Lane is president of Lane Financial LLC, a broker-dealer engaged in consulting and transaction activity at the intersection of the reinsurance and capital markets.
Dr. Lane is the second non-actuary to be appointed to the CAS Board of Directors. He joins Mark Vonnahme, executive vice president of Arch Insurance Group, in bringing an outside perspective to the actuarial society.
Tom Myers, chair of the CAS Board of Directors commented, “Dr. Lane brings a blend of experience in insurance and the financial markets that will be of great value to our Board as it guides the CAS into the future.”
Previously, Dr. Lane served as president of Sedgwick Lane Financial, senior managing director of the Capital Markets Division at Gerling Global Financial Products (GGFP), president of Discount Corp of New York Futures, senior managing director and head of commodities of Bear Stearns & Company, president of Lind-Waldock, and investment officer for The World Bank.
Dr. Lane is an independent consultant and prominent speaker on insurance and securitization and has written numerous articles on the topic. In 2001, he was awarded the CAS Charles A. Hachemeister Prize for his article on "Pricing Risk Transfer Transactions" published in the Actuarial Studies in Non-life Insurance (ASTIN) Bulletin. Dr Lane edited “Alternative Risk Strategies” in 2002, which was runner-up for the 2004 Kulp-Wright Book Award. Previously, Dr. Lane co-authored two books, The Treasury Bond Basis and Eurodollar Futures and Options, which have become derivatives industry standards. He has taught at the London Graduate School of Business, The University of Chicago Business School, and is a Professorial Visiting Fellow in the School of Actuarial Studies, Australian Business School. Dr. Lane is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and earned his Ph.D. in mathematics, business administration, and computer science from the University of Texas.
