I think there is an error in the Lee article that makes a whole section
incomprehensible. Just prior to the seven items listed on pages 119-120
Lee states "The factors that cannot be used include:". Right after the
seven items he says "In no case can either the operator's sex or marital
status be used as a rating variable", which seems to contradict the
purpose of the list of 7 factors!
I think that these 7 factors (type of vehicle, miles driven) are
actually allowed and the word "cannot" was meant to be "can"
(restricting insurers to the use of those seven factors and the limited
place of residence factor). In light of this vital error(?), I expect
that no questions will come from this area. Does anyone else have any
insights on this?
