Point Distribution of Last Five Exams

Below I have worked out the point distribution by reading for the last five=
=20
Part 8 exams. Notice that the point values can vary widely from one year to=
=20
the next. I am hoping that this is because there have been several new=20
readings in the last few years, so certain other readings have been less=20
emphasized than before. Nonetheless, it does look like it varies a lot from=
=20
one time to the next.

I have also included the average over five years (or less, if we have less=20
than five data points), and totals of all readings. The reason the totals d=
o=20
not add up to 100 are that the point totals do not include current events,=20
and they also include some older readings which have since been eliminated.

I was not sure what kind of medium to send this in, so I am just including=20
it in this note. It may turn out ugly, depending on how e-mail gets sent to=
=20
everyone. Please let me know if you need me to resend it.

The "blank" spaces indicate that the reading was not on the syllabus yet at=
=20
that point, whereas cells which have a zero in them mean that no points cam=
e=20
from that reading that year. I hope this is helpful to you overall.

On another subject, having spoke with some of you at the Ratemaking Seminar=
=20
in Chicago, it seems like the preferred mode of study for this exam overall=
=20
is by using 3x5 cards. I have been trying to think of a useful way to have=20=
a=20
"card exchange" of some kind. The idea that came to me was to have an=20
exchange of possible exam type questions from the new readings, since we do=
=20
not have any questions on these readings in the study manual. Does that=20
sound like a good idea to you? I thought it would be helpful, because it is=
=20
not always easy to determine what new material will be asked. Let me know=20
what you think.

Talk to you soon. Best of luck.
