The damn CAS web site is down again. I was able to get on earlier and
get some "answers" posted by others. I checked my test and got some
page numbers when I got problems wrong (or differed from the posts). Here
goes...
1. T
2. F
3. T
4. F
5. F
6. T
7. F
8. F
9. T (p.9)
10. T
11. T
12. F
13. T (p. 7-7)
14. T
15. F
16. F
17. B
18. D (p. 10-7 and 10-8, #2 is false, but there is a direct quote in IASA)
19. D
20. C
21. B (p. 134)
22. skipped
23. A (or D? p. 6 and 7, who knows what they wanted for the 3rd piece)
24. B (p. 12-4, 12-6, 12-10, direct quotes though I think #3 is an untrue
IASA quote)
25. D
26. B (p. 4)
27. E
28. A
29. E (p. 14-16, "note 16" doesnt mention anything - hence none of the
above?)
30. C (p.8)
31. skipped
32. C
33. D (p. 10-11, 10-5, 10-6)
34. C
35. E (p. 18-17, I am really pissed about this one. I put D since #1
doesnt say "unsec reins recov". Once again, a direct quote from IASA also
doesnt say it)
36. A
I (like a lot of candidates, I assume) got tricked by direct IASA quotes
that are blatantly incorrect. ...or am I wrong?
Some other answers from the essays (I finished early, so wrote down lots
of "numbers" that I came up with).
39. 1,250
40. 161.37 (CAS posts said 163 - maybe I carried too maybe decimals)
42. 1,797,785
44. 591,156
46. I got 7,400 but only because I documented some "ridiculous"
assumptions. The problem was undoable if you tried to recreate all 3
columns on the page. This was because Assets > Liab plus Surplus (on a Net
basis - 1st column). One of my assumptions was that a certain amount of
"invested assets" were not admitted. Oh well...
47. 875
49. 20,000 / 35,515 / 45,000 / 51,014 / 56,000 (I choked on this one, but
had time to come back and try again - still not positive it is correct)
51. 79,915
52a. 180 / 720 / 1800 / 3500 / 3800 (I couldnt believe that the 10% limit
applied to both AY1997 and AY1996)
54. -18,750 deficient
56. 1.4067
58a. CY 1998 84 weighted open claims, CY 1999 30 weighted open claims
58b. 50,820 or (36,960 + 13,860)
60a. 9,187
I think I scored in the mid 70's (assumming 80% credit for pure essay
answers that I think I got right) Of course, after I post these answers
(and the other CAS obsessers tell me which are wrong) I will end up scoring
in the high 60's. Overall I just pray that the CAS doesnt do something
stupid with the pass mark - like set it above 75.
Peace,
Jeff
