re-affirm that it is a typo. (It gets old, doesnt it?) Like Paul
said,
the formula on p. 319 should say .5v(b-1)+vi NOT .5vd+vi.

While we're at it, there is another typo on that page:
U/(a+d) should read u/[(a+2/2)]
