The Task Force on the CAS Election Process is charged with reviewing CAS
election procedures. We will be developing recommendations for
discussion at the February Board of Directors' meeting, and as such we
are working on a tight time frame. We may consider virtually any aspect
of the process, from balloting procedures to candidate position papers.
We plan on researching the procedures of other organizations as well,
and we would like to consider your questions, suggestions and concerns.
The CAS has a 15-member Board of Directors consisting of the
President-Elect, President, Immediate Past President, and 12 Directors
elected for rotating 3 year terms (4 elected per year). The principal
administrative body is the Executive Council consisting of the
President, President-Elect, and 6 Vice Presidents.
The 12 elected Directors are elected by CAS Fellows in a competitive
election. Annually 4 Directors are elected from 8 or more nominees.
The President-Elect is elected by Fellows in an election in which there
is typically 1 nominee. The Vice Presidents are elected by the Board of
Directors.
The Nominating Committee, with input from others, nominates the
President-Elect, 8 Board candidates, and the Vice Presidents.
Additional candidates for President-Elect and Board appear on ballot if
they receive 15 Fellow petition signatures. The Nominating Committee
consists of the 5 immediate past Presidents.
Please e-mail, fax, phone, or write us with your input. If there are
some organizations that you think have election procedures that are
worth reviewing, please identify them. A quick note from you today is
better than a carefully constructed proposal in two weeks (although both
would be great). Please contact our chair person, John Purple, at
John.Purple@po.state.ct.us, or 860-297-3856, or any member of the task
force. Thanks for your participation.
Sincerely,
Ira Kaplan
