I wasn't aware that setting a fixed pass mark was being advocated by many
students.
What I have suggested, and have heard other students suggest, is setting
some bounds on pass marks and ratios (e.g., pass mark will not be higher
than 65% of total available points; pass ratio will not be lower than
30%...), to provide some measure of comfort for a student population that
has become increasingly skeptical towards the stewardship of the exam
committees.
