I agree that students who sat for Part 8 this time deserve at least a
sincere apology for the pass list foul-up.
Regarding grading for this sitting, the Part committee I'm on did
consider that students generally appeared to be better prepared this
time around due to transition effects, and our pass score was selected
with that in mind. It did result in a higher pass ratio than previous
sittings. I'd be pretty surprised if any of the Part committees
ignored this issue.
Regarding the exam process in general, based on my 2 years on the
committee (and many more years slogging thru the exams) I think the
exams need to be professionally administered. You can't get the
level of accountability students are demanding (and with some justification,
in my opinion) if you have the exams administered by a panel of
volunteers doing it in their free time. Comments, anyone?
