Dear Rob
Regarding your mortgage insurance query, you might like to know that there
were papers at the (UK) 1992 and 1993 GIRO conferences looking at M.I.G.
This was topical at the end of the 1980's/early 1990's in the UK,
following the housing "boom" and "bust". The papers included a model of
M.I.G. claims as a function of the number of arrears and repossessions,
and describe a number of ways of earning the premium. The claims cost is
highly correllated to the economy/housing market, to which an insurer is
exposed for ten years plus writing M.I.G., so it is typically one of the
longest tail classes of business one can write.
Please send me your snail-mail address if you would like copies. I hope
China is making a pleasent change from Delta Lloyd!
Kind regards
Julian Lowe
P.S. To other readers, please note there is a joint UK/US seminar in
London on 18 June. The C.A.S. should have circulated details. Again,
please let me know if you would like details.
