As a regulatory actuary, I tend to use the NAIC's database for a major part of
the data I put into reports and analyses. Through an ODBC link, I have the
ability to create a hyper-link directly to the tables. Through Microsoft
Access, I can look at, and query, the NAIC tables just as though they were on
the hard drive of my PC, or that of our LAN. Our efforts in taking advantage of
this capability are still in their infancy. I also rely on A. M. Best's
publications and NAII's "Green Book." Finally, Fast Track data has been quite
useful for trend analysis.
While I haven't added any new information regarding Rick Gorvett's request, the
capabilities emerging due to today's rapidly changing technology may give us a
chance to re-evaluate our use of known data sources.
